COF or WOF required?
There has been a a fair amount of confusion recently in the RV TRADE.
One Major query, has been the question over whether a particular Motorhome(s) needs WOF (Normal), or a COF (Heavy).
LTSA Factsheet 26 is absolutely clear.
Any Motorhome or Campervan Vehicle having a Manufacturers GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) rating of 3750kg or more will be required
to have a 6 monthly Certificate of Fitness. Even if the Vehicle is able to be driven on a Car Licence.
There is an exemption for Motothomes whereby:
A heavy Licence is only required if the ACTUAL weight of your Motorhome, or intended Motorhome id 4501 kgs or more. That is if your normal personal kit, water, waste, gas, bikes, and all other effects or options bring the unladen weight to over 4500 kgs.
Any actual weight below 4500 kgs will be fine with a standard Car Licence.
*The full weight on the road, and the consequent Licence requirements are an end user responsibilty.
